COMPASSIONATE HELP MANAGING HOARDING AND CLUTTER
HOW WE HELP
We create a customized plan with each of our clients to help them reach their decluttering goals and increase their well-being. We take time to understand their needs, listen to their concerns and motivations, and create a strategy that will work best for them. We use a combination of practices from the science of positive psychology, hoarding intervention, and coaching to help them succeed.

SKILLS FOR SORTING AND DISCARDING

We believe change is always possible if you have the right tools and resources. Our goal is to help our clients develop the skills they need to manage their clutter now and in the future. Whether it's learning how to stop acquiring new items, make decisions about what to keep and what to discard, how to make steady progress, or even where to get started, we're here to make sure our clients have the resources they need to be successful in their decluttering efforts.
GOAL SETTING AND PROCESS MAPPING

We find that creating good processes over time leads to the greatest progress. We work with our clients to identify clear goals for their home using research-based goal setting techniques and measuring progress along the way. During each session, we create personalized action plans to help clients take their next steps based on their goals. We know that progress isn't linear, and we support clients no matter where they are in the decluttering process.
STRESS MANAGEMENTÂ AND MOTIVATION

We know that decluttering can be stressful and feel overwhelming at times. Possessions play an important part in all of our lives, and we understand that parting with them may bring out sadness and anxiety. We use coaching and stress management techniques to help our clients manage their emotions and navigate past challenges through the sorting and discarding process, while providing encouragement and support.

"HOARDERS POSSESS A HEIGHTENED SENSITIVITY AND IMAGINATION ABOUT OBJECTS THAT MOST OF US DON’T. THEY ARE, IN THIS WAY, LIKE ARTISTS. WHILE THIS IS TRUE, HOARDERS LACK ONE CAPACITY ESSENTIAL TO AN ARTIST WHO MAKES ART—THE CAPACITY TO CUT. TO EDIT."

WHO WE HELP
We work with clients from diverse backgrounds with unique goals and circumstances. Our work spans from helping clients meet code and safety requirements in their homes to helping clients finally tackle the clutter in the back of their closets.

Whether you find it difficult to part with your things, you feel disorganized and dissatisfied with your home, or you just need some accountability and encouragement to sort through your things, we are here to help.

We all keep things that are important to us.
Sometimes, having too many important things starts to create problems in our lives.
No matter what these problems are, we can work on them together.
ABOUT
Danny Torrance founded DLT Decluttering with the goal to make supportive services for people experiencing hoarding behaviors and excessive clutter more available and accessible in the Philadelphia region and beyond. He has been an active member of the Philadelphia Hoarding Task force since 2015 and brings over 7 years’ experience working with people with disabilities at Philadelphia’s Center of Independent Living (CIL). He holds a Master’s degree in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, where he specialized in practices to help people cultivate their strengths, overcome challenges, and live happier and healthier lives.

In 2015, Danny completed his training in effective hoarding intervention from the Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership (now Metro Housing Boston). MHB’s innovative harm-reduction case management approach focuses on the person, not the stuff, and empowers clients to be active participants in the goal setting and sorting and discarding processes. This approach helps clients gain the tools and skills they need to successfully manage their clutter and has been shown to prevent 98% of evictions, support mental health and well-being, and lead to long-term change.
